World/Classical fusion with Loop 2.4.3 and Zodiac Dust

Ithaca College – School of Music

3322 Whalen Center

Ithaca, NY 14850

Brooklyn World-Fusion group Loop 2.4.3 returns to Ithaca, showcasing new music from Zodiac Dust (their Independent Music Award-Nominated CD) at Ithaca College.

In the tradition of sonic innovators like Steve Reich, Konono N°1, Moondog, and Radiohead, Loop 2.4.3’s new album flows through a vast array of sounds and rhythms across the nine tracks on Zodiac Dust. Their first CD, Batterie, was said to “reinvent percussion” (Fresh Air, NPR).  Their new CD, nominated for album of the year at the Independent Music Awards, adds piano, voice, strings and two instruments of their invention, the Rose Echo and eLog, both to be featured at the upcoming performance.

Well known for their live shows, recent Loop 2.4.3 performances have been described as “Transportive” (Boston Phoenix), “Intricate and energetic” (The New York Times), “Mesmerizing…stunning” (Time Out Chicago),  “a hard driving set” (Alex Ross, the New Yorker), and “a mind-blowing show” (Sean Boyd, Art Farm Recordings). The recital hall at Ithaca College should be a wonderful place to experience their “feast of gorgeous sounds” (Lansing State Journal).

Cubase export refresher

NOTE: If you have difficulty exporting audio from Cubase, "Unexpected Error" or otherwise, please cross-check your Cubase export procedure with the one in the FAQ:

http://digital.music.cornell.edu/cubaseexport

UPDATE: Please remember to export from Cubase/Audacity/etc TO THE LOCAL HARD DISK OR LOCAL SOUND DISK.  Do not attempt to export directly to the Network Drive, this will very likely cause problems or may not work at all.

1. Export file to local disk, ideally your personal folder on the Sound disk

2. THEN copy resulting export (along with any other files fuch as your soundfile library) to the Network Drive homework hand-in.

Claire Schmidt

Hey, my name is Claire Schmidt. I'm a senior psych major/music minor. I sing in chorus and a cappella and used to sing in a band in jersey. I mess around on guitar writing songs and recording/mixing with cheap software at home. Can't wait to learn more in class!

Eric Intro

My experience with music has been mostly on the listening side.  I bought my first CD in 2nd grade (Nirvana Nevermind) and have been hooked ever since.  Everything from Hip-hop all through classic rock and most recently electronic.  I have been emcee-ing (spelling?.. word?) on and off since 8th grade and have put out 3 albums since college under the name HYPE CITY KINGS (check it out - myspace.com/hypecitykings and hypecitykings.com)

I look forward to making some beats this semester from anything I can get my hands on and maybe mix in some of my knowledge from other genres into my tunes.  If you make beats please get in touch... My style tends to change completely from producer to producer, so I'm always ready to make something new.

Look forward to creating with you all. Cheers.

David Bodin

Hey, what's good fellow MUSIC 1421-ers?  Sorry for the delay, but I was having troubles with my account last week.  Here's a little bit about me.

My name is David Bodin and I am a junior in Operations Research Engineering.  I'm from Worcester, MA--it's like an hour west of Boston, so can 'Paaaaak the caaaa in Haaaavaaaad yaaaaad.'  I played the saxophone on and off for eight years, but I have unfortunately not been utilizing it actively by any means recently.  I'm really looking forward to this class because I have been wanting to re-immerse myself in music and I see this class as the perfect opportunity to do so.  Also, not to mention it beats taking 20 math/science classes every semester. I enjoy all music with the exception of opera and country, for the most part;  I mean, if it's good music I can still appreciate it.

My favorite kinds of music can be exemplified by The Beatles (classic rock), Dr.Dre (old-school rap) and RJD2 (electronica-ish-ish-capish).  I also really enjoy the jazz and classical genres.  I really don't know what else to say right now, so if you have any questions--just ask.  I really look forward to working with all of you and to see each individuals unique approach to the assignments. Peace-Out!

Hello!

Hello all,

My name is Michael Xu, I'm currently a Junior majoring in Economics in A&S. I'm thinking of taking on a music minor but I haven't settled on that concretely yet. As far as musical experience goes, I've played piano since elementary school and trombone since middle school. I started writing my own stuff for piano/voice towards the end of high school, and picked up guitar/drums somewhere along the way. Since then writing/recording/mixing has been a growing hobby for me. Getting to use the equipment in the studios is very exciting, and I can't wait to see where the class goes.

 Cheers,

Xu

Jae Ho Lee

Hi My name is Jae Ho Lee. I am a senior majoring in chemistry. Sorry for the late introduction. I waited for the password but it did not come before I left on friday. I  was out of town during weekend and just got back. I like most of the music, but because I did not grow up in the US, I do not know many popular songs and I would love to learn and hear them. I played acousti,c guitar for about 4 years and currently playing it in church band. I also play little bit of bass. Furthermore, I work as sound engineer at church during Sunday services. I would like to learn more about the digital music and digital sound equipments in this class and also about recording music(because we record the songs we play during the service). By learning more about digital sound, I hope it would allow me to do better job on sound engineering and recording.
