introduction

Hi, my name is Dean, and I'm a junior majoring in AEM. I appreciate all types of music, but I love rock/pop music the most. I play piano, cello, and the guitar. When I'm making music I rely on my piano the most. I have experimented with GarageBand in the past, but I don't really have too much experience overall in digital music. I'm very interested in learning fundamentals this semester. One random thing about me is that I am completely deaf in my left ear. This means that I can only hear monophonic sound. I hope that despite this disability, I can learn to produce well panned and mixed music.

Mahin Rehman

Hey Everyone,

My name is Mahin Rehman and I'm a junior in Human Ecology majoring in Human Biology, Health and Society and minoring in music. I love a lot of different types of music from classical to modern jazz fusion, to radiohead, coldplay, techno, a bunch of stuff. What better way to create music than take this class? I've had Reason for a while and have done recording and editing of my own but I think this will help smooth out some of my rough edges. I play guitar and have been for several years now and just picked up the piano. When I was younger, I played trumpet and drums for several years, so music has been a big part of my life. Hope to get to know most of you, if not all and see what different kind of music we all come up with.

Your new friend,

The Dali Lama

Jean Paul

Hello everyone,

This is Jean Paul Montant, also know as Johnny Pablo, or just J.P

I am from Mexico but my father is french.

I am a junior Mech E and part of the FSAE racing team at Cornell.

I play the guitar and a little bit of harmonica. I am a huge fan of the analog word, I am really into the blues and old jazz. That s why I try to play with analog amps, and effects only. This being said though, I am really into the digital world as well, because I want to be part of this huge revolution in music, there is so much to be done still, which keeps me very motivated.

I play with Elena in an awesome band called "Just Wandering" (check our myspace!), and in a blues band called The Attic Tones.

I have a small recording setup called the M-box 2, with just two little channels, ProTools and Reasons, but I have a world to learn.

I am really looking foward to work with any one, with any style of music.

ps: I am writing through my friend's account cause I still can t get on this thing but what eves jaja

cheers

Jon Culver

Hey everyone. I'm Jon and I'm a junior majoring in Communication in CALS. I'm also pursuing a minor in music. My first instrument was the piano when I was four but I gave that up in favor of the alto sax in fourth grade. Since then I played sax in my high school jazz band and wind ensemble and learned guitar and some bass. I like most types of music. My favorites include ska and classic rock. I'm really interested in composition and would love to learn how to record songs in this class. I don't know much about software used for creating music but I can't wait to learn.

Introduction

Hey Everyone

My name is Greg Sadowski and I'm a senior Computer Science major.  I'm pretty much finished with all of my required classes so at this point I'm taking a few courses that are of interest to me (including Music 1421).  My musical background is somewhat limited.  I used to play piano about eight years ago but those skills are gone now and I don't play any instruments.  I have used Mixcraft and FL Studio a little bit but I'm not good with them by any means.  I have a lot to learn and I'm looking forward to the rest of the semester.

intro

My name is Ian and i'm a junior majoring in Philosophy. I make sample-based mashup music under the name Deskhop. In the last few years, I've started playing shows at colleges and universities, triggering samples live in Ableton. This class looks great and i'm already learning a lot.

Douglas Wynne

Hey everyone,

I'm a senior finishing off my last couple AEM credits to get that gooood degre.  I've played piano since I was very young, started with classical then veered more towards jazz as I entered college.  I picked up the guitar sometime in middle school and it's been my main instrument since (fender fat-strat through a Deluxe Reverb w/ Analog Man TS-808, A-M orange juicer, and a Z-vex Fuzz Factory, I love talking gear so if you're a gear-head as well let me know).  I started playing drums this summer as well as singing.  I'm huge on Phish (didn't get to see them this summer, don't ask about it, sensitive subject) I'm also big on Jazz, a little hiphop, triphop, and several select tentacles of the all-too-broad classification we call Rock.  I play in a band based in State College, PA called North of Nittany (www.myspace.com/northofnittany or http://www.facebook.com/pages/North-of-Nittany/32788780354)  I don't play music with anyone here in Ithaca regularly, but I love to jam whenever possible, feel free to talk to me if you're interested in playing music sometime.  In terms of this class, I'm interested in how I can use digital technology to help myself compose and tastefully augment my strictly analog compositions.

Intro: Kendrick Castro

Whats up everyone? My name is Kendrick Castro and I'm a junior in Arts & Sciences majoring in Information Science. I've loved music all my life and grew up listening to all sorts of things. Not too much experience with musical instruments (can sorta mess around on a piano, and did a little bit of viola back in elementary school) though I have been producing/composing since my sophomore year in high school. My productions have usually stayed within the realm of electronic music with a couple ventures into hiphop and reggaeton. This summer started recording with a friend who is a blues/rock guitarist and so have started moving into the realm of rock and the like. I'm taking this class mainly to learn more about recording/mastering and also to build a more solid foundation for future endeavors. I'm really looking forward to learning a lot meeting other musicians in the class and hopefully getting to collaborate with people.

Chris Nieves

Hey everyone!  My name is Chris Nieves.  I'm a junior Economics major in the school of Arts & Sciences.  Guitar is my main instrument, though I also play some bass, keys, and trombone.  I play in two bands here in Ithaca.  Eigenfunk is an R&B/funk/rock band that I'm in with two other students and several Ithaca locals.  The other band is a "jam band" that still needs a name.  Besides that, I am an avid music listener.  My tastes span from jazz, hip hop, jam bands, rock, funk, blues, and indie.  More recently I've begun to get into electric music as well (one of the reasons for taking this course!).  Some of the genres I like in electronic music include progressive trance, dubstep, and glitch.  I'm somewhat familiar with some software (Cool Edit Pro, Audacity, Ableton Live) but I would like to really understand jsut what these programs can do.  My hope is that knowing these programs can help me create music and open up new creative possibilities. I'm really looking forward to this class!
