He did graduate work in Music Composition at the<a href=\"http:\/\/www.esm.rochester.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0Eastman School of Music<\/a>\u00a0(MA, PhD). In 2005, he was the Acting Director and lecturer at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/ecmc.rochester.edu\/ecmc\/home.html\" target=\"_blank\">Eastman Computer Music Center<\/a>\u00a0and Co-director of the\u00a0<em>ImageMovementSound<\/em>\u00a0festival.<\/p>\n<p>His recent music includes\u00a0<em>Numina<\/em>\u00a0for Brooklyn-based<a href=\"http:\/\/www.janustrio.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">\u00a0Janus Trio<\/a>\u00a0(flute, viola, harp) presented recently at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/spark.umn.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Spark Festival<\/a>\u00a0in MN,\u00a0<em>Seiend<\/em>\u00a0for brass quintet premiered by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.austriafestivalorchestra.at\/parislodron\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ensemble Paris Lodron<\/a>\u00a0(Salzburg,<\/p>\n<p>Austria,\u00a0<em>Roses Don\u2019t Need Perfume<\/em>\u00a0for guitarist\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/academic.hws.edu\/music\/faculty\/meyer.asp\" target=\"_blank\">Kenneth Meyer<\/a>\u00a0(gtr. and electronic sounds, 2009) recently presented by Dr. Meyer on his 2010 Hungary\/Romania tour, a piece for saxophone and electronics called T<em>o Be Neither Proud Nor Ashamed<\/em>\u00a0(<a href=\"http:\/\/www.innova.mu\/artist1.asp?skuID=274\" target=\"_blank\">recently released on Innova Records<\/a>), and\u00a0<em>Birches<\/em>for viola with electronic sounds for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.grahamviola.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">John Graham<\/a>\u00a0performed on Mr. Graham\u2019s recent China tour (Beijing, Wuhan, Xiamen, Hong Kong) as well as at the Aspen Summer Music Festival. \u00a0Mr, Graham will present\u00a0<em>Birches<\/em>\u00a0again in August 2011 at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.icmc2011.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>International Computer Music Conference \u00a0(ICMC)<\/em>\u00a0in Huddersfield, UK.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ernste\u2019s recent commissions include a new work for the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.jackquartet.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">JACK Quartet<\/a>\u00a0for 2012, a piece for french horn and electronics for\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.adamunsworth.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Adam Unswort<\/a>h (University of Michigan\u2014Ann Arbor), and a half-evening-length work for viola, percussion, and \u201cunmanned\u201d prepared piano to be premiered in 2012.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Kevin Ernste is a composer, performer, and teacher of composition and electronic music at Cornell University where he is Director of the Cornell Electroacoustic Music Center.
