Most of the gamelan is theoretically tuned to one four-
tone "scale," consisting, of scale degrees 1, 2, 3, and 5 of
a diatonic major scale. However, the actual pitch may
vary from, say, _A _m_a_j_o_r in the low register, to _B_b in high
registers, with all sorts of microtones along the way.
Hence I have labeled the tuned instruments from 1 to 4,
indicating only their place in the 4-note scale. If you
need to know the actual pitch of a particular instrument, a
list follows:

Note also that on many of the instruments the pitch has
a beautiful habit of slowly rising a bit, so take this list
of pitches with a grain of salt.

_a_n_k_l_u_n_g_._1 a4 [1/6 tone flat] Wooden rattles
_a_n_k_l_u_n_g_._2 b4

The 16 shorter _a_n_g_k (angklung) soundfiles include a complete
diatonic major scale of single shakes from _d_f_5 to _d_f_6 and
also a short roll on each of these notes.

_s_u_l_i_n_g The names of these bamboo flute soundfiles indicate
their approximate pitches, which often deviate from Western tuning.

A total of twenty one short _s_a_r_o_n (metal xylophone) sound
files, in two timbral groups (_s_a_r_o_n_1 and _s_a_r_o_n_2) are
pitched between _c_s_5 and _f_s_6.
