Notes on some of the soundfiles in the
            sflib _p_e_r_c (percussion) directory:

This directory includes sound sources commonly used in West
ern art music and popular music. Many additional percussive
sound sources native to various "world" (non-Western and
ethnic) cultures are available within other _s_f_l_i_b directo
ries (e.g. the _a_f_r_i_c_a_, _a_s_i_a_, _c_h_i_n_a_p_e_r_c_, _g_a_m_e_l_a_n_, and _w_o_r_l_d
directories), and some of these percussive sounds, such as
the _l_o_g _d_r_u_m and _s_l_i_t _d_r_u_m sources within the _a_f_r_i_c_a direc
tory, have become increasinglky common in Western music as
well.

ALPENGLOCKEN and CENCERROS

The 4 _a_l_p_g_l_o_c_k (alpenglocken) soundfiles (_b_4_, _c_s_5_, _f_s_5 and

_c_s_5_, _e_5 and _g_s_5) are similar in timbre to cowbells, but
these eight soundfiles differ markedly in timbre and attack
hardness.
_a_l_p_g_l_o_c_k_._c_s_5 is the brightest alpenglocken tone, with the
hardest hit (as though struck by a snare stick), and _a_l_p_
_g_l_o_c_k_._f_s_5 is the "mellowist," as though struck with a soft
yarn mallet.

The 5 _t_u_b_c_h_i_m_e soundfiles are tubular chimes, pitched at _c_4
through _g_5. The source recordings for these soundfiles were
of rather poor audio quality, and for this reason many users
will find these soundfiles unusable. Sorry about that.

_B_E_L_L_S_:

The timbres of the two cabasa soundfiles, _c_b_s_a and _c_b_s_a_._r_o_l_l
sound somewhat like sandpaper blocks, and also are timbrally
similar to the brazilian shaker (_s_h_a_k_e_r_._b_r_a_z_._h_i), and to
some of the shakers in the _a_f_r_i_c_a directory.

_r_a_t_t_l_e_2_._4. Both groups include single shakes and multiple
