introductions

Yuan Li Ren

Hi All,

My name is Yuan Li Ren. Everyone calls me Ren for short. I am a junior in ILR. I have no experience in music composition whatsoever but I'm willing to break out of my comfort zone and learn something new, even if that means I have to take a risk. I am looking forward in this class because of the fact that I love listening to music and I love technology in general. Digial Music is just something I've always been interested in learning more about.

Intro: Sarah

Hi all, here's more about me and my experience as it relates to this class:

Senior in the College of Engineering

Majoring in Computer Science

Minoring in Computing in the Arts and in Music

As far as digital music I've taken an Independent Study in Electronic Composition, Computers in Music Performance, and ElectroAcoustic Technique

I've also takn 3 semesters of game design and have done art, programming, and music for the teams I've been on.

I play tuba.

Kevin lists Video Games under the static half of the course, but really there's lots of work being done in the procedural generation of game audio... which is much more dynamic than a simple soundtrack.

While I'm pretty strong in interactive audio, I haven't had much of a chance to add visual components. I'm taking the class to get a more well rounded view of multimedia in general.

Chelsea Howe

Most of my previous entry still applies~

I'm a senior in the college scholar program studying Interactive Multimedia Design. My main focus is on digital games but I'm generally fascinated by interdisciplinary creative work and especially interactivity as a design factor.

I've taken 120 and 220, composed for games in CIS300 and CIS400 as well as a few independent projects. I played the viola for 10 years so some theory background a bit of practicality. I love diatonic pieces.

Last spring I studied in Wellington, New Zealand, and took a course on cinematics, only to discover that I hate cinematics. I'm definitely not in this to make a film or work with film or score for film (though soundtracks are an all time favorite genre). My interests lie in creative visualizations and music on the fly, hopefully informed or incorporating users in real time. I LOVE working with Processing and have made several different interactive visualizations, with and without sound. It's always fun for me to create languages of association - turning motion into music or rhythm into pictures or saturation into volume. And of course, it's always best if there's some sort of game involved.

Design should be fun, after all, and it's never inappropriate to play.

belated greetings!

Hi All. Here's a belated introduction:

My name is Stephanie Jenkins and I'm a junior College Scholar and English major. I've been studying American music, with a focus on the politics of folk revival. I spend a lot of my time makingmusic with Cornellians and local musicians. I can often be spotted playing banjo at ABC or the farmer's market, and occasionally the electric bass in a band or two. My experience with recording has been thus far limited to a folk duo EP of mine. If for any reason you need banjo or vocals on a recording project, I'd love to collaborate!

Introduction

Hi everyone,

I realize this is a late introduction--forgive my inability to figure out the site! I'm Joanne and I'm a sophomore in the College of Arts and Sciences, majoring in Economics and minoring in Music. Prior to this class I have had little experience in recording music--I recorded a couple of songs in a professional studio playing the violin in an acoustic/rock band I was in in high school and have fooled around a little with Garageband, but that's about it. In terms of musical experience I play both the violin and piano, and am interested in possibly integrating either or both into my assignments. I look forward to learning more about recording and editing music using different software and to bouncing off each other's creative ideas in class!

Introduction

Hello everyone,

My name is Jon Eckhaus and I am an undeclared freshman in Arts & Sciences. I've been a fan of electronic music for quite some time now and began recording my own compositions about 2 years ago when I got my first mac and began using garageband.

I've dabbled in several different programs since such as pro tools, cakewalk and audacity, and am looking forward to what we will be exploring this year in 1421.

It so happens that one of the first songs I ever made junior year of high school uses the same Neil Armstrong sample that we used in class.

so,I'll try to post it.

I'll also try to post a song I made yesterday (although I still need to clean it up).

Introduction

Hi All,

My name is David Karr. I am Design and Environmental Analysis major in Human Ecology. I have been playing drums for 13 years now and just recently bought my first electronic instrument, a midi drum pad, which I have no idea how to use. I love playing all types of music, especially funk, rock, hip hop, "techno" rock and progessive jamming. If anyone is ever down to jam just let me know.

Peace,

David

See you guys on tuesday,

eddie here

to all

this is edward kim-yujoong - more easily, eddie. in the world of cornell, i am a fifth-year architecture student, with endless disillusions of my major. my life was split between the u.s., indonesia, south korea, the trombone, the saxaphone, a $18 acousitc guitar, and a mini-bongo made for me by a friend. i have come to accept that i have probably migrated from one instrument to another because, partly from curiosity and partly from musical ineptitude. my most recent musical soul-searching has left me behind turntables. the ineptitude is still very much there, but i have way too much fun to let that get in the way now.

the other 'eddy' in this class and i have started to collaborate in producing music (progressive house? i'm not very fond of genre headings). i think we have both realized the heightened fun and quality that comes with collaboration. and so, i only have high hopes of working with, listening to, laughing with everyone else here.
