Assignment 3 - Toccata

Well after a bit of messing around, I found a very nice deep almost ambient sort of sound and seeing as how Halloween is upcoming, I made a strange take on the classic Toccata & Fugue.

3D Interaction Device: a MIDI glove

"3DID (3D Interaction Device) is a wireless glove developed at MICREL (Microelectronics Research Labs @ University of Bologna) by V. Pacella (shaduz) and M. Sama (-RAX-) under the supervision of prof. L. Benini and his research team (E. Farella, A. Pieracci, D.Brunelli)."

The Theremin videos we saw today reminded me of another video I had seen of a DJ using what seemed to be a MIDI control glove live to control aspects of music during his set. Check out the video: http://www.homework.it/downloads/shaduz_LiVE@LiNK_3dec2005_glove.wmv

Alex Lee - Requiem II

2:38 minutes (2.41 MB)

Final results of Project 1. Took me a total of about 8 hours in the studio, done completely with the keyboard in B27B.

There are a few timing and fading issues that I didn't have time to resolve. Still turned out pretty well in the end, I think.

Enjoy!

Cool Sample Piece

This is a really cool song made mostly from samples. The video is the perfect complement for the track.

Phillips Song From Class

Does anyone know the name of that piece we were listening to in class and where I can locate a copy of it???

Hey, I'm Dan Goldstein. I'm a sophomore comm major, minoring in AEM. I do not have any real background in terms of digital music. My experience with digital music extends to messing around on Fruity Loops and GarageBand, and making beats for social studies projects in high school with my friend who would rap about the constitution or the beauracracy. Not really the most professional sounding stuff you've ever heard. I really hope to learn a wide range of things from this course. I want to learn stuff as basic as just some of the terms and lingo associated with digital music, because I don't know what everything means. I also want to learn actual skills and how to create considerably nice sounding pieces of digital music. I've played percussion for 10 years and took piano lessons for a year or so. The reason I was drawn to this course is that digital music seems so limitless and I would really love to explore what I can do with such equipment. I'm excited to learn from everyone and make cool music together.

Alex the Lesser

Hello there, this is Alex Lee.  I'm a senior heading out the door with psychology written on my shiny piece of paper.  My musical background started when I was at the wee age of five.  My mother bade me choose an instrument to play and I picked the most ridiculous piece of machinery I saw: the accordion.  After three or so years, I actually got good enough with it to get certified at level 5 or something.  14 years later, I've pretty much forgotten all the accordion I once knew, but picked up the piano in the last two years.

Unlike the people below me, I am terribly inadequate at creating my own music.  The best I can offer is an arrangement of a heavy metal piece (Awe of She) from the video game series Guilty Gear for piano  (the arrangement, not the games).  The thing was just written in Finale, saved to MIDI, run through a SoundFont, and encoded to MP3.

I hope to be able to team up with epic figures to try to take over the world; or, failing that, create some awesome tunes.

Inspiring Performance: jamie lidell

I have found every artist signed to Warp Records to be quite fascinating, and Jamie Lidell is no different.  His album 'Multiply' is truly awe-inspiring, and his live performance has become legendary.  He uses Max MSP to produce and edit video/ sounds live, for a very dynamic performance (just like PD right!? we could do this right!? Yes.  The answer, as always, is simply, "Yes").  Check out a video of his performance here:
