Pianist Kathleen Supove presents a concert of explosive works for piano and electronics with video (and with Ms. Supove, there is always a potential for some very interesting theater!).  Supove is artist-in-residence at NYC's Flea Theater where she is also a curator presenting the work of other emerging artists including violinist Ritsu Katsumata (mentioned on these page before).  She performs regularly as a soloist as well with Patrick Grant Group, the band Dr. Nerve, and the duo twisted tutu with composer/performer Eve Belgarian.

It promises to be an exciting evening. I hope to see you all there!

I don't even know how to begin with this... check it out

Those of you who stayed late for "Behind The Decks" heard a set from me, one that I had been planning for the EMC essential mix series.  I didn't record it that night, but when I woke up the next day I took the time to record it proper.

What it ended up as I feel is a highly energetic yet deep, feel-good house party mix. I don't know if any of you heard my Music For Jungles Mix, but this one is considerably different and not as theme-obsessed. Style ranges from dark and emotional minimal techno to deep house to progressive house to electro and tribal house before drifting away with some emotional prog.  It's meant to be dramatic, and it's meant to be narrative. I hope it carries you away as you listen...but above all it's just two hours and a bit of corporal groove therapy...

The Electronic Music Collective is holding a DJ Demonstration/Open Decks Session for all those either interested in learning about what a DJ does, the technology, or those interested in getting their feet wet deejaying themselves.

Starts at 9 PM and goes until however late people stay.

We're going to be in my home studio, at 110 Heights Ct. #7. 

We'll probably have a really chill crowd there just hanging out and listening to good music while messing around with ridiculous audio equipment.  It should be a good time.  There will probably be 'refreshments' as well.

(Just remember, don't drink and deejay)

I just thought I'd share this beautiful track and equally stunning video with you.  This is Mike Oldfield's second production in the "tubular bells" series, the first of which was recorded in autumn 1972, one of the earlier synthesized electronic tracks to reach a mass audience in the movie, The Exorcist.   Sentinel is a revisited version, much better in my opinion, and was released in 1992.  I was lucky enough to find this on 12" in Ithaca at a record fair last semester.  Anyways I think the music and the video are both really interesting and you might want to take a few minutes from your hectic day to lose yourself to this.

Former Ithaca resident and recipient of a Cornell Council for the Arts Emerging Artist award, Ritsu Katsumata is a classically trained violinist who has been performing since she was ten. She has played acoustic violin in Carnegie Hall, the Philadelphia Academy of Music, and the Smithsonian Institution. She composed and performed the scores for the two films screening tonight: Yasin (Betty Lee Kim, 13 mins, www.yasinmovie.com), a narrative short about a young boy in California whose Jordanian-born father is arrested and accused of being a terrorist, and Heroes (Lynn Estomin, 22 mins), a documentary short featuring the mother of a fallen soldier and an Iraq War Veteran who is speaking out against the War. Ritsu will talk about her work on these films and then perform a 45 minute set of music. Nathan is a long-time student of CEMC having taken Music 120, 220, 620, and 659. In addition to his interest in using sensors in performance (often to extend the timbral and live manipulation capabilities of his guitar), he has played in punk-rock bands for a long time. This song follows that mold with text from Edgar Allen Poe's poem of the same title.
