Assignment 0: Michael Xing

Hi y’all! My name is Michael Xing; I’m a senior in A&S from North Carolina majoring in CS, Math, and Physics trying to do a minor in Game Design.

I’ve played the piano for over a decade, although I’ve unfortunately not played as much since high school. However, I have always been interested in the intersection of computers and music. In fact, this is the fourth year in a row I’ve tried to get into this class (managing to end up 3rd on the waitlist last year without getting in – interesting fact: my A0 from last year is still up on this site: http://digital.music.cornell.edu/music-1421-a0-michael-xing/).

I haven’t really composed before, except playing with Finale Notepad a bit back in middle school, but am always happy to try something new. I’m also enrolled in MUSIC 3435 with Professor Cross, which apparently will also be covering some audio mixing content, so I’m super excited to see where these courses lead. Looking forward to a great, socially distanced, safe semester!

MUSIC 1421 A0 – Michael Xing

Hi y’all! My name is Michael Xing; I’m a junior in A&S originally from North Carolina majoring in Computer Science and Math with a minor in Game Design. I’ve played the piano for over a decade, though sadly I’ve been less involved with music since coming to college than I’d like. Perhaps that’s the reason I’ve been trying to get into this class since freshman year. I have relatively little experience composing (mainly comprising of the hours I dumped into playing with Finale Notepad back in middle school), which is partly why I’ve been drawn to this class so much. Looking forward to a great semester!
