Score11 Syntax
Today we went through a Score11 example where we looked at different ways of specifying randomized values. In the case of the attack time of our marimba example, I wanted to say "50% of the time give me values within the normal range for attack times and 50% of the time give me values outside of that range". The precise p-field I used in class was as follows:
< p7 = Attack hardness {neutral default value = 1./normal range .7 - 1.6}
p7 .5 .7 1.6/ .5 7.5 5.2 ;
If you remember Score11 gave me an error at the point where the "/" slash was. For your benefit, the only error was including the "/" at all. Score11 interprets the numbers correctly with them as follows:
< p7 = Attack hardness {neutral default value = 1./normal range .7 - 1.6}
p7 .5 .7 1.6 .5 7.5 5.2 ;
This says, "50% of the time give me values between .7 and 1.6, the other half give me values between 7.5 and 5.2".
Doors are open
As of this evening, your ID's will allow you to access the studios. Please sign up for times online as Eric described. The timing could not be better as we will be looking at our first piece of software tomorrow in Lecture. I would recommend curbing your excitement and waiting until after your lecture time to go in as things will make very little sense without some more background. By the end of tomorrow you will be ready to get in and begin recording audio. And because of yesterday's discussion you'll have a better understanding of the fundamentals then most people who have been using these tools for years.

Your ID's will also give you room access and your user accounts have been created. I will give you your passwords tomorrow in class. In addition, remote access is in place for B27 and our server, digital.music.cornell.edu. You can find information about how to login here.
