introductions

Ms Nyela here...

Hello Everyone!

My name is Crystal Thomas, and I am obsessed with music and all that it entails! I took Music 120 in the Fall of '05 and am excited to continue on in this more accelerated course.

My interests lie mostly in RnB music. I play the keyboard and produce vocals. I work quite a bit with Midi as I enjoy the extent of control it allows. I absolutely love this class and am looking forward to working with some of you. Please feel free to contact me if you want to collab on something!

Excited to hear some of your music!

~Crystal

Wooram's Intro

Hello, my name is Wooram Yoon. I'm a senior majoring in CS in College of Engineering. Though I love listening music, I hardly know anything about digital music or composition. That's why I'm taking this course. I want to learn something that will help me beyond just enjoying music. My favorite music genre is punk (Unfortunately, I don't know much about American punk music, I listen to mostly Korean music). I have been a member of Shimtah for 4 years. Shimtah is the traditional Korean percussion group here at Cornell. I can play several percussion instruments well. I'm looking forward to learning much from this class with you guys & gals. Thanks. See you soon.

Finally in...

Hey everyone, my name's Alex Gonzales.  I've been composing jazzy/poppish stuff on Piano in my own way  for a year or so now.  Played piano for 6 years.  I love electronic music, jazz, and above all good rhythm, my goal in the past semester that I've been taking lessons with Eric and writing with Reason has been to mix all of those.  I love the stuff I do and probably put way too much time into it than I should.  I'm certainly happy to try writing with someone else too, I know that's a big reason I wanna take this class.  I say finally in because I tried to get into 120 but it was full (i know I'm not alone there). I'm glad to be here.

Jake's intro

Hello all, my name's Jake and I'm in engineering school. I took 120 last semester and enjoyed it a whole lot so I decided to take this class again. Some of my works from last semester can be found here. Last semester I mainly focused on composing straight up pop songs and mixing/mastering them. As of now I have no idea which direction I'm going to go with this class but I'm thinking of doing something different than what I did last semester, so we'll see. I've been playing piano since 4 and I'm a big time Muse fan. That's it for now. See y'all back in class

introduction

My name is Adam Vana.

this is probably a good place to start, there is a bio here too in the obligatory third person

http://www.myspace.com/adamvana

- Somewhere between 3rd and 4th year architect here

- married happily for several years to underground dance music

if you've ever been curious about electronic dance music, or want to get into the scene further, I can help

- 'Club' DJ of deep progressive, tribal, and tech house, and minimal techno.  i used to use mostly vinyl records but have made the switch to digital for a variety of reasons (barely any electronic music is even made analog anymore anyways) my weapon of choice recently is Ableton Live hooked up to a couple midi controllers and a behemoth computer.

- Freelance graphic designer at school, studio graphic designer out of school.

- started the Electronic Music Collective (EMC), a group of 130 or so people who also love electronic music and dance music.  We are an independent student organization registered with CU, and we basically promote electronic music to the student body and aim to establish a local scene.  We throw regular parties, both at clubs in the area and at houses, as well as hold workshops on DJing and music production.  We have meetings every Thursday at 5 PM in Lincoln B21 (basically right after class), where we plan events, watch documentaries and other films on electronic music, discuss the scene, and of course, talk about music.  All of you are encouraged to come and see what it's about.  First meeting is this thursday. EMC on Facebook

- recently started EMC Streaming Radio, basically 24/7 streaming audio of the best in classic and current underground dance music.  Every sunday at 10 pm we have a show called "EMC Essential Mix" where we showcase an EMC DJ doing a 2 hour continuous mix.  This sunday I will be showcased with my mix "Music For Jungles", which I will be posting here soon anyways.  Tune in any time HERE

- probably too opinionated about keeping underground music musical and non-commercial.

- I hope eventually to be self-employed as an architect and designer with a specialization in acoustic spaces (performance halls, public buildings, outdoor theaters, nightclubs, lounges, etc) based outside of the US.

- i have played jazz and classical saxophone about 12 years, and piano a bit longer than that, though I am much much better with the saxophone than the piano.

- after school I would like to work as a graphic designer and produce music and develop a side career as a DJ in a more cosmopolitan scene and at some point go back to school either for a masters in architecture/design or in some sort of acoustic or audio mastering field and then build a career as the sort of architect i described above

Hi All

Hey,

My name is Matt.  I've been a guitar/vocalist for about 8 years.  The past year or two, I began doing some recording at home, which yielded some good results.  However, I hope that I can learn new techniques and methods to integrate into my music - hopefully, making for a better listening experience.

I introduce myself to you

Hello, my name is Misha Mross.  I have been a musician for eleven years, beginning with bass guitar and moving on to piano.  6 years ago I taught myself the basics of sampling and sequencing, and later became more interested in synthesis, which prompted me to purchase an analog modelling synthesizer.  After this it was all over.  Synthesizers now rule my life, an inescapable presence in my never ending train of thought.  2 years ago I took a course at the SAE institute in NYC titled "Electronic Music Production," which expanded my knowledge of synth programming and audio in general, and introduced me to a very important piece of software:  Ableton Live.  After this I bought my first laptop and began to perform using Live and various software instruments.  1 year ago I moved from Vermont to Ithaca in order to collaborate with longtime friend and fellow electronic musician David Brown.  We now perform electronic music regularly as "The Bodies."  We have a weekly on Fridays at the pixel lounge from 8:00-10:00, and we play other places regularly as well.  More info and mp3's can be found at http://www.myspace.com/daveandmisha or http://www.thebodiesmusic.com .  I am taking music 220 as an extramural course this semester because I want to open myself to new ideas and meet people who have similar interests.  For money I build docks and boathouses on beautiful Cayuga lake.  Thank you for your time.

Saidu Ezike aka Audio Essay

Hello fellow classmates!  My name is Saidu and my AKA is Audio Essay but you can just call me Essay or Saidu (Pronounced Say-do).  I took 120 in the Fall of '05 and had a great experience.  I've learned so much and grew as an artist and most importantly, as a person.  Since taking 120, I've come out with a rap mixtape entitled "The Beginning of Something Great" and I am working on another mixtape as well as a bunch of other side projects.  Although I have my mind set on broadcast journalism/entertainment as a career, my dream is to become a music mogul such as Andre 3000, Kanye West or Lupe Fiasco and I have been working hard towards that dream.  Knowing this information, you can probably see that my strength is in the creative side of music as opposed to the conceptual side.  This means that I have much more lyrical/pop saavy than technical saavy although I have grown a lot in the techincal aspect.  While I was in 120, I shared the hosting duties at the sound art forum and had a blast doing it.  I consider myself a natural entertainer; it's in my blood.  In terms of my past collaborations, I have definately been the thinktank and entertainer rather than the masterizer although I've done a chunk of production and have made the instrumentals on my more recent songs.  Right now, I am attempting to learn the guitar and the piano but I am not sure when I will be professional level on those instruments.  Well, that's all for now, I'm looking forward to using my mind to help implement innovative masterpieces for Music 220!  Peace out and God Bless Y'all!

~Saidu
