Yo whaddup this is MC Cynthia in the hizzy

Music has always been a big part of my life, besides the fact that I’m constantly on the prowl on Spotify and YouTube, I also create some loops on my own time, sometimes with lyrics. So if you need a female vocalist, feel free to ask me.

I used to play a bit of piano and oboe so I have a bit of a classical background. Although most of my audio producing experience has been from editing my podcast that I did last year as an independent study and from last semester in 1421.

This year, I hope to get a little crazy and just do weird stuff. I’m really into Wintergatan’s Marble Machine and the thought of creating something even on one-tenth of the scale of that thing would be incredible.

Concert’s recording

Will the recording of the concert be available to us to see? I would like to see it again!

Project 2

Hello everyone,

I’m going to use my project 2 as starting material for the final project, but I didn’t share it in class, so I thought I’d share it here. It has a lot of room for improvement, so all feedback (negative and positive) is welcome!

Studio Access

Hey everyone, does anyone know how to access the studio without an ID? Currently locked out… thanks

Free Ableton Live Course

As Cornell students, we have free access to all courses on Lynda.com, one of which is an Ableton Live 9 Essentials course with over 9 hours of videos, and also 1.8 GB of exercise files so you can follow along and practice what you’ve learned. I’ve gone through a couple hours so far and they are really good.  The exercise files are in the downloads folder in Studio B, and I can’t remember where I put them in Studio C, but they’re there (I’ll update this when I figure out where they are in Studio C).

Are stereo files ok for the upcoming assignment?

I have my own Tascam handheld recorder, which records in stereo. Is it ok to submit stereo files or should I just submit one of the channels? Thanks.

Re: HW1; What does “cleanly edited” mean exactly?

In the description for HW1 is the following sentence: “The resulting audio file should be approximately 10-15 seconds long, cleanly edited and ready for us to listen.” Could you expand upon what ‘cleanly edited’ entails (are fade-ins/fade-out required? Should we be editing out any extraneous noise and/or breath sounds etc….)? My initial thought is that this assignment is more about learning how to capture a good signal rather than audio editing, but I’d like to be sure. Thanks.

Question about questions

If we have questions about class topics, homework etc…., is this an appropriate forum for which to get answers from the Professor and/or the TA’s?

Edward Fang – Assignment 0

Hello!

My name is Edward Fang and I’m a senior studying information sciences in Arts and Sciences. I use to play piano and viola, but was much more active as a singer, in both my high school acapella group as well as my school chorus. Since coming to college, I have stopped being so active in my creative extra-curriculars, but I love listening to music. While I mostly listen to EDM, I enjoy all types of genres including, classical, hip hop, folk, and musicals.

I have always been interested in music production and have tried on my own to learn a couple times, but I had always felt that I was missing some fundamental understanding of digital music production. As a result, I am currently taking this class to explore the area of music production as well as to gain a proper understanding of how digital music is produced.

I can’t wait to see what this class has in store as well as what everyone comes of with!
