Junghyun Eun Profile

Hi,

My name is Junghyun Eun, and I am a senior studying Computer Science. I learned electric guitar for a couple of years when I was young, and played drum for about two months. I enjoy listening to various types of music (sometimes country and rap too!). I am taking this course to learn how electronic music is made, theories behind them and how to methodically use programs to create music.

Sylvia Zhao Intro

Hey everyone! My name is Sylvia Zhao, I am a senior majoring in Chemistry and Economics. I used to play the piano but stopped after high school, so I am really excited to reconnect with music again this semester. I have always wanted to learn about music programs and composing techniques but haven’t had the chance to until now. I look forward to expanding my skill set and trying my hand at composing in this course. I would definitely be more than happy to work in groups.

Michael Ndubuisi – Introduction

Hey Everyone,

My name is Michael, and I’m a senior studying Computer Science in Engineering. I started learning to play the guitar about four years ago, which got me interested in music, right around the same time that I decided I wanted to major in CS, and I’ve been fascinated by both  ever since. This class seems to be a perfect fit for my interests, and now that I’m a senior, I finally have a chance to take it.

In addition to playing an instrument, I have also toyed around with composing and arranging music, mostly electronically, and I have a little bit of experience with a few digital audio workstations. I’ve also had the good fortune of being able to collaborate with an engineering friend of mine on a couple of independent research projects over the past year, in which we’re exploring new types of musical interfaces, and new ways of using technology to change the way people create music. The two most notable creations to come out of our research are The Aura and The FaderKeyboard .

I’m hoping to apply the skills that I’ve picked on from my past projects to this class, and hopefully learn some new things as well, and create some amazing things this semester!

Jeff Setter Introduction

Hi, my name is Jeff Setter and I am a junior in Electrical and Computer Engineering.  I play piano and violin for about 14 and 10 years respectively.  I continue to have a strong interest in music even though I am not actively on any musical groups right now.  I am particularly interested in using software in order to master and create musical pieces.  I am excited to learn and create something new in this class.

Agatha Siu Introduction

Hello, my name is Agatha Siu and a senior in Operations Research and Information Engineering. I sing regularly and I’ve played piano for about 13 years (though stopped taking lessons in high school) and guitar for about 4 years. I play weekly as a part of a praise band for an on-campus fellowship. I’ve studied music theory and music history while taking piano lessons and I’m always interested in continually learning about different aspects of music. I’ve never had a creative musical outlet in my experiences so I’m excited to try new things and definitely open to working with others!

KE

Hello, everyone

My name is Julius and I’m a junior in A&S majoring in English and minoring in both Africana Studies and Music. I really enjoy music and have always been interested in how production works, so I decided to take this course in search of that information. I am also excited to see how creative my peers are in composing and coming up with new music.

Lecture 1: Digital audio fundamentals

Following up on today’s lecture (1/28/13), here are some links of potential interest:

Hey Everyone

I’m Steven Bell and I’m a senior in the College of Arts and Sciences majoring in government (international relations).  I’ve played the piano since the 3rd grade and stopped taking formal lessons during my junior year of high school.  I used to play for a couple of choirs at my church back home before I came to college.  It was a good way for me to continue doing what I enjoy.  I’ve recorded a number songs in my small recording studio at home and have had a few of them copyrighted.  I am familiar with some basic recording techniques given my limited experience with the studio software Cubase.  From this class I’m hoping to learn more about recording music and creating digital music so that I can apply them to my own works.  I am more than willing to work in groups.  I’ve been waiting to take this class for years and I look forward to the experience.

Thomas Owens- Intro

Hey Everyone

I am a senior in CALS majoring in Communication Technology, I have very little experience with any one particular instrument but I have dabbled with several. Because this is my last semester of college and I wanted to branch out and try something out side my comfort zone. I am a big EDM fan and I feel this class would be a great way to understand how those artists make their music.

I look forward to meet you all and hearing your creations.
