Wesley I am

Hello everyone,

My name is Wesley, and I am a senior in the Hotel School. I’ve played guitar for about 5 years now, and only recently began to try to record myself. It was then that I realized I had so much to learn about music production and that’s why I signed up for this course.

I also have played the drums and bass guitar for a few years, and played trumpet all throughout middle school and high school. My passion definitely lies with the electric/acoustic guitar, though!

I am very interested in collaborating with others. I think that collaboration is one of the best ways to broaden one’s musical ability!

Yo, It’s Philippe

Hey guys,

I’m a senior in Mechanical Engineering. I’ve been trying to fit 1421 in my schedule for quite some time. I’m very relieved to take something more creative than math and engineering. I’m really into electronic music like house, techno, trance and EDM, as well as alternative and indie music. I used to mess around quite a bit with Garageband in middle school and some in high school just for fun. I got into Ableton late in high school, but have always had limitations with the software. I don’t think I’m too bad at mashups though. Find my Soundcloud at: boi chips. Don’t worry, the name is a joke.

Cheers,

Philippe

Hey guys, I’m Nick

Hey! My name is Nick and I am a senior studying economics in the Arts and Sciences School. My only formal music training would be my ~3 years of piano lessons when I was in elementary school.

As with nearly everyone, although I have always loved music, my interests seemed peak as I grew older and my experiences broadened, especially in college. While I appreciate virtually all forms of music, my favorite genres include hip-hop, punk rock, various forms of electronic / techno, and the more-recently popular trap. I want to explore creating music within each of these genres, but I think right now my primary end goal for the class is to develop a fluid and creative trap song. Within trap, my favorite artists include Baauer, Yellow Claw, and RL Grime, but there is so much good trap music on the internet that my playlists are always evolving. Additionally, I love the sounds of Kanye’s Yeezus album (especially “Hold My Liquor” and “I am a God”) and want to experiment with something along those lines.

I am very open to collaborating with anybody in the class, so please reach out to me if you have any ideas!

Hey I’m Zander

Hey everyone, my name is Alexander Cammarata, but you can call me Zander. I am a senior in the Hotel School and am very excited about this course. I used to play the guitar for a few years in elementary school/middle school, but stopped playing when I started high school. I don’t think I’ve picked up a guitar since then, so I essentially have no musical skills. I have enjoyed listening to a variety of music all my life. I recently started listening to electronic music, more specifically deep house and techno music, and began to wonder how this music is made. I am interested in learning to create this type of music, so I thought this class would be a perfect place to start. I would welcome the opportunity to collaborate with others who are also interested in this type of music.

Hi I’m Connie ^-^

I am a Junior studying applied engineering physics. I played the violin from middle school in 6th grade up to the end of high school. Since then I’ve missed music and playing my violin. I was in a Mariachi in middle school and then moved on to join my high school’s orchestra. Through this class I want to bring music back into my life. I love music and art and I find them very important for me even though my core education is in engineering. I decided to enroll in this class because I thought it was a good fit for me because of its creative and technical basis.

Hi, I’m Esther

Hi,

I am a senior in the Ag school studying environmental science and sustainability. I grew up in Kenya and have been musically involved pretty much all my life. I played the piano and violin growing up but I stopped once I got to college. Right now I sing in the Cornell University Chorus and on my own. I have done some music theory but I have not really done much computer music so I am really looking forward to learning this new skill.

I am very interested in collaborating with others especially since Cornell is full of so many talented musicians. I am really looking forward to the course as it will give me the opportunity to learn a great deal about recording and other aspects about music of which I have never had the opportunity to focus on. The knowledge I will gain from this course will also empower me in the event that I am in a recording situation.

Hi, I’m Austin!

Hi everyone!

My name is Charles Jordan, but I go by my middle name Austin. I’m a senior in Arts and Sciences, and I’m double majoring in China & Asia-Pacific studies and mathematics. Growing up, I played trumpet, piano, and tenor sax, sang in various choral groups, and I studied music theory in high school. I haven’t had the opportunity to continue my involvement in music since starting at Cornell, but that’s why I’m really excited about this class– I can’t wait to get back into it!

I just returned to Cornell after spending a year and a half studying and working abroad. I was inspired to take this class after meeting a good friend in Beijing who was involved with the electronic music scene in China. I enjoyed seeing the work he did and began to experiment with music production on my own, but I’m looking forward to studying it rigorously. I’m currently interested in blending elements of traditional Chinese music with my work. I enjoy a huge range of musical genres, and I’m interested in any kind of collaboration!

Sanat Valecha

Hey everyone,

I’m Sanat, a senior Economics / Government major. I am really excited for this course. I have been playing instruments, mostly the drums, for ten years now, but never graduated to producing. Some friends of mine who had taken this course in the past recommended it to me, and I jumped at the chance to learn digital music production from the ground up.

In terms of musical interests, I listen to a lot of classic and punk rock, some jazz, some funk. I also like to listen to music from different countries, particularly Brazil, Jamaica, and Nigeria. I am very open to new music, especially when it is rhythmically complex, and can play some varied styles on the drums.

I’d be down to collaborate with anyone who wants to get a classic band set up going, or even someone who wants some live drumming on their electronic track. Let me know.

Thanks.

Hi everyone I’m Jane!

Hey guys, my name is Jane Kim and I’m a senior in Arts & Sciences studying Psychology and minoring in Business and Design & Environmental Analysis. I was interested in taking a hands-on class that called for creativity and so I decided to enroll in this one! I really enjoy listening to a wide variety of music genres including indie and alternative electronic music. In my free time I like attending music festivals such as Coachella and Make Music Pasadena where I get to listen to large selections of music in one convenient location.

My musical experience includes playing violin/reading sheet music and having fiddled around with Garage Band, but for the most part, I haven’t had much exposure to making digital music. I’m enthusiastic to learn, however, and to have something to show for all the hard work that we are going to put in this semester. I am excited to collaborate and to listen so let me know if you want to combine skillsets.
