Assignment 0: Euna Park

Hey! I’m Euna, and I’m a senior double majoring in English and Music and minoring in PMA. Growing up with a violinist mom and with the tiniest violin thrust into my hands at the age of four, I had no choice but to accept early on that music was going to be an integral part of my life. I haven’t played the violin as much since crossing coasts to attend Cornell, but I’m in three vocal ensembles here (we’ll see how that goes): Chorus, After Eight, and Measureless. Mezzo/Alto 1 pride.

I played around with Noteflight a little in middle school, but that’s about it for composition. Being in a cappella groups that worked with MuseScore and Finale allowed shy underclassman me to explore arranging music, which rekindled my interest in producing something of my own. I’m looking forward to working with software that’ll allow me to share the melodies in my head with the world, and getting to know and collaborate with others in this course who feel the same.

Assignment 0: Aman Gupta

Hi! My name is Aman and I am a senior majoring in ECE. I’ve been trying to enroll in this class since my freshman year so I am really excited to finally be in it! I have been really interested in both Music Production and Djing since high school and have casually messed around on Ableton but most of my knowledge is just from youtube tutorials that I could find online. So I am really excited to dive deep into DAW’s and learn as much as I can from the instructors and all of you!

Assignment 0: Will Smith

Hi! My name’s Will and I’m a senior CS major. I took classical piano lessons for most of my life but now I play more alternative/indie music. I also sing, play the guitar (acoustic and electric), and, to a lesser extent, play bass and drums. I write music, I have experience with arrangement and recording, and I have performed a lot in the past.

I’m hoping that this class will teach me new things about digital music production that I can leverage in my recordings, but I also want to explore different ways of creating music. I love playing with other people and am totally open to collaboration.

Assignment0: Yifan Yang

Hi everyone,

I am Yifan, a master student from Electrical and Computer Engineering. I played the piano for over ten years but I haven’t played too much after college. And I also had some experience on accordion before I learned the piano. Recently I have been playing around with electro guitar (very beginner level). My recent interests are progressive rock, pop rock, city pop, a little bit metal and house music. I take this class because I want to learn basics on music making, try to make my own music and at the same time add some fun to my master’s life.

Assignment 0: Thomas Bastis

Hello, my name is Thomas, and I am a Computer Science major from the College of Engineering taking this course to fulfill both a breath requirement, and my desire to learn an interesting skill from an elective (something I wish was easier to do!). I’ve always been quietly interested in pursuing some avenue of music as a hobby one day, be it ‘real’ or digital, but a good opportunity to begin learning didn’t manifest until now. I have no music experience at all, but I hope to make this class the beginning of a lifelong hobby of creating digital music.

Assignment 0: Joshua Kaplan

Hi all! I’m Josh. I play piano and ukulele, and also like singing acapella (though I haven’t done that in a while). I’ve done a bit of computer music before and I was part of an electroacoustic ensemble in high school. I like interesting instruments, polychromatic music, unusual time signatures, and orchestral music. Also, I’m playing D&D at the moment, and my character wants to be an idol, so I’m trying to write some songs for her. I’d like to get better at writing melodies and adding texture to my music.

Assignment 0: Eshaan Jain

Hi, I’m Eshaan, a senior Psych major! I’ve played a few instruments since I was a kid (piano, drums, and violin), and am just starting to get interested in using DAWs to make computer music. Just like Irwin, I’m really into hip hop, but also R&B. Looking forward to the semester!

MUSIC 1421 Assignment 0

My main instrument is ukulele (playing it for 3 years now) and am currently learning guitar (only a month in) and potentially bass as well. Enrolled in the class because I am curious about music production and don’t know anything about it and would like to actually learn what it entails. Currently have zero experience with using music software. Would love to collaborate with others and attempt to make my own music. Currently into mostly Hip-hop and Alternative Rock but enjoy most genres.
